Supporting Gut Function

Food is one of our most basic needs, and eating consistently throughout the day is necessary to feel strong, maintain energy levels and to live a long, healthy life. However, sometimes, the way that we digest food and assimilate its nutrients becomes dysregulated. Digestive dysregulation can result from a food intolerance, sensitivity or allergy, an autoimmune condition such as Celiac disease, or a digestive disorder such as GERD, IBS, IBD or chronic constipation. Other times, digestive dysfunction may be a manifestation of poor nutrition, SIBO or an imbalance in the gut microbiome. No matter the reason for GI distress, restoring GI function is essential for optimal health.

Cultivating a healthy gut microbiome is essential not only to maintaining proper digestive function, but a healthy immune system as well.

Treatment for Gastrointestinal Disorders

Our Registered Dietitians provide individualized nutrition care and counseling for clients with a range of GI conditions, including (but not limited to):

  • Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance Disorders
  • Chronic Constipation
  • Eosinophilic Esophagitis
  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
  • Gastroparesis
  • Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) such as Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Lactose intolerance
  • Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)

The intense discomfort that results from GI dysfunction can lead to pain while eating as well as anxiety and stress when food shopping or meal planning. People struggling with food allergies and sensitivities, or with conditions such as IBS, IBD, GERD, chronic constipation, SIBO, Celiac disease and/or other gut disorders often do not know where to begin when they are trying to configure a diet that doesn’t negatively impact their systems and lead to troubling symptoms such as bloating, distention, gas, an urgent need to use the bathroom, or difficulty eating in social contexts and restaurant environments. Our GI experts guide our clients in developing customized meal plans that both manage symptoms and achieve and restore gut health and strength.

The anticipation of how you may feel after you eat and where you will be in order to manage your symptoms can be troubling; Targeted dietary recommendations can help.

Healing the Gut

Many factors can upset the GI tract and its motility. Clients with gastrointestinal health issues often feel as though their normal functioning is interrupted due to the pain, urgency and discomfort of their bodies’ response to certain foods or food combinations. Because the foods we eat have a direct impact on our GI health and on our gut microbiome, the pressure to choose the “right” foods for our bodies can often feel very stressful and as a result, eating can become unnecessarily worrisome. We find that many of our clients with IBS, chronic constipation, Crohn’s or Celiac disease, SIBO or a more generalized gut regulatory issue, benefit from a thorough examination of their current diet and a recalibration of their diet via guided meal plan recommendations which are targeted at reducing embarrassing and uncomfortable symptoms and strengthening the GI tract, its function and motility.
