Our story

From Personal Understanding To Professional Calling

Headshot of Rebecca Appleman, registered dietitian

Rebecca Appleman, RD

Founder

Appleman Nutrition was born from a deeply personal understanding of the complex relationship between food, body, and mind.

Our founder, Rebecca Appleman, RD, recognized early in her career that traditional nutrition approaches often missed the emotional and psychological components of eating.

Having witnessed firsthand how diet culture and restrictive eating patterns can harm rather than heal, Rebecca was determined to create a practice that would offer something different, a place where clients could find genuine understanding, evidence-based guidance, and the freedom to embrace food without fear or judgment.

What started as a vision to help individuals break free from the diet mentality has grown into a comprehensive practice that serves families across the spectrum of eating challenges.

Our team

Growing From a Single Vision Into a Team

Over the years, what began as Rebecca’s solo practice has evolved into a team of registered dietitians with focused clinical interests, each bringing decades of experience in treating the entire spectrum of eating disorders and disordered eating, digestive health challenges, pediatric and adolescent nutrition, prenatal and postpartum care, perimenopause and menopause nutrition, lactation consulting and family-based nutrition therapy.

We see clients in our Rye, New York office and by telehealth. Our growth has been intentional. We’ve carefully built a team of experts that shares our philosophy and commitment to providing careful, compassionate care.

Today, we’re proud to serve hundreds of families, helping them navigate everything from eating disorder recovery to picky eating in toddlers, always with the same foundational belief that healing happens when we approach food and body with curiosity and compassion, not judgment.

Our mission & philosophy

Rooted In an Inclusive Approach to Eating

Health at Every Size

We believe that health can be achieved at any size, and that a person’s worth is never determined by their weight, shape, or eating habits. Our approach is grounded in the empirically supported premise that all foods can fit into a balanced and healthy diet.

Beyond the Plate

While our clinical knowledge is unparalleled, our true strength lies in how we connect with and care for our clients. We understand that eating is about so much more than macronutrients and micronutrients. It’s about culture, emotion, family dynamics, and personal history.

Building Insight & Knowledge

We partner with each individual and family to help them understand their unique needs, build skills, and develop strategies that create lasting, meaningful shifts in their relationship with food, paving the way to stronger nutrition and improved overall health. We believe in the power of curiosity over judgment, and flexibility over rigidity.

How We Help Clients Create Lasting Change

Connection First

Every journey begins with a complimentary discovery call with Rebecca, where she takes time to thoroughly understand your unique goals, challenges, and family dynamics before connecting you with the ideal specialist on our team.

Building Insight and Skills

We don’t just tell you what to eat in a vacuum. Our counseling helps you build insight and awareness into the beliefs that have resulted in certain eating patterns, we teach you how to listen to your body and make wise food choices that benefit your whole system, we help you navigate challenging food situations, and together we develop a toolkit of strategies that will serve you long after our work together.

Individualized Care

We recognize that no two clients are the same. Our comprehensive initial consultation allows us to understand your full story including medical, nutritional and exercise history, relationship with food, and personal goals in order to create a truly curated approach that meets your individual needs.

Family-Centered

We understand that eating happens within the context of family and community. Our approach includes support for parents, guidance for family meals, and strategies that work for your whole household.

Gradual Growth

Lasting change happens slowly and sustainably. We work at your pace, celebrating small victories and building confidence through manageable steps that honor your body’s wisdom and your family’s needs.

Ongoing Support

Healing isn’t linear, and we’re here for every step of the journey. Our team provides continuous support, adapting our approach as your needs evolve and celebrating your progress along the way.
